In a significant political development, Parkash Chand Garg, a prominent leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), is slated to join the breakaway faction, Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt), on September 16, 2023.

Garg, who previously served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Sangrur from 2012 to 2017, made headlines in 2022 when he contested from Dhuri against the incumbent Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann. However, Garg secured a mere 6991 votes, amounting to 5.44% of the total votes cast.

Interestingly, Garg had been a prominent figure in Sangrur politics but decided to contest from Dhuri in 2022. His electoral history in Sangrur has been a rollercoaster ride, as he lost in 2007 and 2017 but emerged victorious in 2012.
